![]() At the beginning of the year, the Netflix Original comedy Death to 2021 attempted to recap some of the world’s more serious and less funny events and make them unmistakenly humorous. It’s not like films haven’t done this before. And that’s what the Don’t Look Up movie captures the essence of. If a comet was to be spotted coming hurtling to earth, would the world leaders simply announce the information as news? Would newsreaders and journalists take the crux of facts laid out and regurgitate the information with care and accuracy? Having lived in an insanely volatile universe this past few years it’s safe to say the answer to these questions is a resounding heck no. ![]() What makes it so funny though, is just how steeped in reality the circumstances are. ![]() The dialogue from the key cast in Don’t Look Up is as iconically accurate as it is absurd. Mind you it also says the events haven’t happened which just goes further to acknowledge the exceptional and thought-provoking way in which the narrative plays out. The trailer for Don’t Look boasts the story is based on real events. Taking stabs at journalism, social media, and a world trained to react rather than fact-check information Don’t Look Up is as terrifying as it is wickedly amusing. ![]() But that doesn’t mean getting the word out to the population will be simple. This comet is more than ten kilometers wide and will destroy the earth. The heavy-set drama and comedy-spiked narrative follow two astronomers who discover an exploding star in the galactic sky. The Netflix all-star cast movie, “Don’t Look Up” is the perfect way to see 2021 out the door. ![]()
